Tonight at the Charlotte NSAI meeting, we had one of the best speakers we've ever heard since we've been members. Our mentor, Nashville songwriter, Rick Beresford spoke to us via Skype. He was hilarious, but knew just how to get his point across. We learned a lot from him, and hope that he will be able to come and do a weekend workshop for our group at some point. My favorite point of the night regarding songwriting is, "A polished turd is still a turd!". So true, Mr. Beresford. For anyone wanting to run their work by Rick, he has very reasonable critique rates, and is open to helping writers in any way that he can. He teaches songwriting for Belmont University in Nashville, The Kerrville Folk Festival, and for the Nashville Songwriters Association International. Whenever we make it back to Nashville, we are definitely going to pay him a visit.
